Maldives, Population 100
Imagine there were only 100 people living in our country. Then:
- 35 of them are living in Male'
- 51 are men and 7 of them work in the government
- 49 are women and 4 work for the government
- There are 4 senior citizens aged 65 plus
- 41 are under the age of 18
- 31 are aged between 18 and 34
- 34 are studying
- 5 are in nursery or kindergarten
- 19 are in primary school
- 10 are studying in grades 8 to 10
- 1 student is in CHSE
- 68 have mobile phone connections
- 8 have post paid numbers
- 60 have prepaid numbers
- 9 are DRP members
- 5 are MDP members
- 2 couples will get married
- 1 couple will file for divorce
- Almost no one subscribes to an Internet connection
- Everyone is either poor or middle-class
- Half-man (of the old Majeediyya School fame) is the only filthy rich bastard

What's especially worrying is that people see statistics like this and actually take pride in silly things like the relative number of cell-phone owners in our country. It's preposterous! How can we be happy about the ignorant consumerism which brought us expensive cellies and cable tv before health insurance and tertiary education?

Numbers were always my favourite thing.
Inferences:
1. Male' is no longer over-populated. Atleast statistically speaking.
2. A whopping 86% of Maldives don't care that their lives are governed by the policies that are spurned out of politics.
3. Maldives is full of young people.
4. The 0.5% owning majority of the wealth would show a steep mountain in a wealth distribution graph.
5. These statistics don't indicate the influence of the significant expatriate population.
6. There are actually only 5 people left in MDP nowadays due to resigning and expelling.
7. We need 2 more women, or 2 guys might turn gay.
8. A third of Maldives is youth.
9. Only 1 couple file for divorce coz the other 50 couples can't afford the exorbiant divorce fees.
10. The GDP does not reflect the average citizen thus the status of the country.
80% of statistics are not always correct anyway.

MIGHT turn gay? As if they already aren't. Not a very politically correct thing to say is that? :P

Hamza... I didn't come this far being politically correct. Besides, blogs are for us politically or in other ways incorrect people eh? :)
Well maybe 49 men having women, 2 are gay or if taking into account lesbianism and complicating it further with bisexualism, these [certain] numbers could easy turn into probabilities.
In the words of the modern teen... whatever. :)

Nice statistics here ...
I know its a bit too much to ask ...
But i wish someone cud do a survey on conspicuous / flamboyant consumerism of the Maldivians ...
How many of us Maldivians ... especially Male'ians ...
1) does not have a job but have motorbikes and cell phones ...
2) have more than one cell phone number, typically a post paid from dhiraagu, a secret prepaid number and a wataniya number ...
3) have rented his/her land and gone off to lanka, india, KL, etc ... thats a lot of $$$ that goes out of our economy ... but we seriously cant blame them ...
4) have a racing car but nowhere to park it ...
5) does not have a job but manages to have a couple of overpriced coffees at local coffee houses ...
6) have all kewl MRF 500 t-shirts ... and maxed out credit cards ... with payments due ...
7) want to live in Male', just for the sake of it, when they can live much more comfortably in villingili or hulhumale' ... (yes, it takes a bit of getting used to) ...
8) have cellphones/PDA that cost more than what they make in 4 months, and doesn't even get to use 20% of its features ...
get my drift ... ?
hehe ...

Half man was a super hero. Much like bat man, but i think he is forgotten and now is replaced by Poki-man. The layer of Half man was the toilets of Majeediyya School. He will "return" and with him the population will prosper.

i remember when we were kids and we had extra curricular activities in the evening, we refused to go to that toilet block, coz it was half man's lair ...
we always went there with "kalhu petty" or someone ...
even our parents insisted that we shud be properly escorted if we were going there after sundown ... hehe ...
i cud just about taste the heavily chlorinated water of the water tank near that block ...
those were the days ... hehe ... :P ...

As M said numbers are my favorite thing too. So curious with numbers I checked and found your numbers has got a mistake. 34 studying and I think you have not considered 1 student in CHSE as a student? Is that it, Simon?

Random Reflexions, I think your next post should be on the Bangladeshis in the Maldvies as it has been a recent hot topic going by the number of posts in the maldivian blogosphere on the issue. Your thoughts would be interesting.

well, i noticed the ratio of country's biggest two political parties. is not for sure correct as what we observe from political activities on the road / in the offices, etc...
there is no doubt that this ratio is not correct. if this is correct they don't have to put over 40 thousand votes in the election of system of government. (riyaasee or barulamaanee)
