We, the easily offended Muslims

This whole "Muslims offended" by this and that is getting a little too old. Our worldwide Muslim leadership and it's fatwa wielding clerics, imams and mullah's deliberate bloating of insignificant issues out of proportion has lead to so much suffering. One very good example of such a case would be the September 2005 publication of cartoon depictions of the Prophet by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten.

Weeks after the initial publication a dossier prepared by 2 imams from Denmark (who were given citizenship of Denmark) were presented to Egyptian authorities. Before this event, and very historic it must be, the world was completely ignorant to the existence of the said cartoons. The imams's carefully prepared dossier also contained 3 additional images of the Prophet which were not part of the original Jyllands-Posten publication.

In fact, one image of a bearded man brandishing a pig's snout, which was captioned in the dossier as "..the real image of Muhammad", was in reality a photo of a French pig-squealing contestant. This deliberate ploy by the imams to stir up things out of proportion lead to unbelievable chaos, death and suffering around the world.

Danish Embassies in Syria and Beirut were set ablaze. Widespread protests and Danish flag burning in Pakistan (no surprise of course) and other Muslim states culminated in 139 deaths worldwide. Numerous newspapers were shut down, editors fired and death threats were issued. All this because of deliberate incitement by 2 imams and their dossier. I say as a result of the dossier because without the dossier the cartoons would have gone unnoticed - just as the initial publication of the cartoons in the Egyptian newspaper, during Ramadan no less, went ahead without much fuss. Without the dossier thousands of stupid, ignorant, gullible Muslims worldwide would've been eating their dates for breakfast instead of killing and burning.

But such is the power of the mixing of press and religion - a concoction that is poisonous to humanity when taken in large doses. And in this case, especially when us Muslims are on the receiving end, the world better watch out OR ELSE! The irony of the typical uninformed Muslim mentality cannot be better summed up than the photo of a protester in burqa holding a billboard calling to "Behead those who say Islam is a violent religion". (Image unavailable)

This is the kind of uselessness that the Islamic world is busy with. Our preoccupation with totally unnecessary garbage has hurtled us back to the 7th century - wielding swords and beards. Funny that while the rest of the world is advancing that we - the Islamic world - is giving up on development, human progress and science to advance religion in its most fundamental teachings.

Hi Simon,

There has been an incident going on here in Australia as well. It is about this Sheik giving a Friday sermon comparing women as cheap meat. I thought it would be interesting for you to see these. It is particularly interesting to see him in the picture along with his daughter in burgaa. One may wonder what he is trying to portray. Is he asking others to come and rape his daughter to disprove his comments. What an idiot.

Also there is an archive of mohamed pics on the internet. Hundreds of pictures.

well,, funny you say OR ELSE!
because, its only OR i think.
the ELSE always fails to materialize.

its just one long drawn ORRRRRRRR..

on the otherhand, people who are more collected seem to focus on saying ELSE, with a particular emphasis on dotting the exclamation mark like a nail to the head.

The way of the Salaf (Salafism aims to revive Islam as was practiced by the first few generations of and after the Prophet) is to replicate the first believers as much as possible. This Elvis impersonator-like cult continues to grow in the Maldives. Their renegade mosque in front of Masjid Zikra has a whip-lash hung outside the door and these men are said to share meals off a dholangu.

They carry miswak in their pockets and like to eat raw dates and drink milk. They also have a well-organised matrimonial service allowing believers to find believing women and believing men to achieve a wife count of 4.

Your last sentence will offend them.

hello.I agree with you in general..and i condemn the danish cartoon protests and all who created the hate....shows how religous leaders politicizes issues...same with 'jihads' at kashmir,iraq...or christian 'crusades' in 'uganda'...its not a problem with islam,christianity..or any other reilgion or philosophy...no religion or philsophy deserves to be hated or looked down upon...just because some of its followers did something...

I think you are a bit proud, arent you? calling people barbaric,idiots...barbaric time of Mohamed?,you think you were born civilised?you were born with all those thinking and intelligence?well,i dont think so.you were born only into a more barbaric society called maldives?swords and beards are barbaric?....what about nukes, and body piercings?(God..how do you jump to those conclusions?eheh)you may be intelliigent...you may be very very educated...but with that stereotypical thinking ...moulded by propaganda....i wont use the word 'civilised'.

ok..go on...say...'gahahahaah..islamic molleyhs...burkaa clad women..blah blah ..terror minded narrow minded muslims...7th century barbaric way of life'....uttering these makes you feel more civilised? or does that make you feel that you are at the same level as others with similar mentality?freethinking is nothing like that....true civilised people will accept freedom of religion ...respect others religous beliefs...base thier ideas upon truth and facts...never jump to conclusions before knowing whats what(or even after that?)...human progress is not with science...its with their way of life and way of thinking.the damage caused by science is ....same as the damages caused by religions...we need to balance everything..religion, science..or what ever...no hard feelings...no hatred...love and peace only..assalaamu alikum!...om shanti!

I read this article earlier this morning and anticipated a barrage of comments.

I am not even aware about many of the things mentioned because, I 'chose' to stay ignorant and steer away from this religious business. Especially when it is a business where our dear leaders take painstaking efforts to push hard into the brains of men, women and children of our society. A business that reaps fruits by producing dummies out of citizens.

I am curious to know as to why a few people, like you for example, have escaped this net and developed the thinking as opposed to slave mentality.

You may have already been marked, my friend.

;-)

In the name of idiocy, most stupid and foolish.

simon: i appreciate your efforts to respect barbarism. as moyameeha said, civilization is about civility. respect the bearded man, respect his textile shop, respect his dress-sense, and most of all respect and tolerate his nonsense, his twisted worldview, and his self-righteousness.

all praise to idiocy.

zaheen: This latest Australian uproar to me seems to be out of proportion too. It seems some kind of 'abuse' of 'feminism' (as anti-semitism is much abused by Jews) is going on here. I think the Cleric's remark should be empirically considered, and checked whether that really is the case.

Simon: As for religious fundamentalism, it is more ironic to me to see the religious fundamentalism in the USA and the UK (also see 'The Root of All Evil?' by Richard Dawkins).

muslims cant agree on which day (or by which method to derive that day)) to mark their(our) biggest festival, Fithr Eid! Nepal had 2 days in two separate areas! The main mosque say they follow their committe. With very no doubt, I say that committee follows PTV (Pakistan television)

so what has become of this relgion? Same thing as what has become of the world. People got power, and power go to the people with power!
Maldives ofcourse is no exception.

I think this whole thing is a stage in development! especially for Maldives. This and other political turmoil in the country would revolutionalise the way Maldives comes to know itself! Most of the educated ppl are becoming very much the family man/woman (like you Simon) and are worried about the future than the present. The present being the power struggle.

The fear here is if the bearded bunch claiming to be muslims win the race against the rest. I say "claiming to be muslims" for many reasons amongst which is that they follow the messenger of God, and not the message of God!

Dear moyameeha,

I do not think the One Supreme God will condone religious tolerance. Why did Mohamed (pbuh) smash all the idols out of the Kaaba, when he took control? If this happy-joy religious tolerance and civility is the Islamic way, we would have idols, crosses and copies of the Bible inside the Holy House. The Mu'allaqat would still be hanging inside the Ka'ba.

Religion has been a sensitive issue for Maldivians in the past. But nowadays most ppl ignore such problems. Are they being "tolerant" or "ignorant"? We'll never know.

nass:

"nowadays" or "mihaarakah ais" is a favourite word of TVM. mihaarakah ais zuvaanun qaum dheke loabi nuvey. zuvaanun mihaarakah ais qaum vari koffi.

Perhaps you should join TVM to present that program "Roadhayaa Suvaal" or "Qur'aan aai Science" or "Jamal aai Mugoshi Meedhaa"

sigh!...i dont believe in the 'this or that side' type of thinking.its either pro MDP or pro DRP?...no im neither....or do i have to support extremism or i dont believe in islam at all?..NO...or i defend islam and other religions or i have to make fun of it?...NO...its not like that.extremism is present among atheists also..among liberals also. as i said...balance is what we need..and 'Finah'....yes I DO think the One Supreme God will condone religious tolerance...and i would love to metion that in medina ..the first islamic state...there was freedom of religion...unlike maldives...and that statue of budhdha in Afghan was there ...even the companions of the prophet, and tabi'een have been there...but until the extremist terrorists ruled the place...it was safe...

ikleel, (or Ismail Rasheed)

u know, u alwez use the word "jamal".. it gives u away every single time. ;-)

perhaps u can just go n answer the questions in Vain's blog if u feel so confident about quiz programs.

vain

Well simon moyameeha is right..
and as i said before dont judge the car by its driver..
and knw tht there are blacksheeps in every community..whether it be muslims, christians,or budhists...so stop stereotyping and labelin...well there are much worse things goin on in the world thn tht..
and to the one who posted in the name 'fitnah' thn knw tht salafism is not what u see infrnt of zikra mosque...even ask them for they wud all most likely wud tell u how much they hate salafism and all..
so Peace..Islam..Salam..Peace..
go to the original state of affairs..

simon..did u say fundamentalism? aaah again do i hve to be nosy..but forgive me b4hand..well as ive stated always here m not being offensive..m just commentin :)
aah now lets get to the point..'fundamentalism' well wot does it mean? it does come to the root word 'fundamentals'..wot does tht mean? does tht in any way mean tht is related to extremism? no no no..am i right? do be a good doctor what do u have to do? yeah, yeah stick to the fundamentals of medicine..likewise to be a good muslim we shud stick to the fundamentals of islam..aah now u got my point..
and again dont take this out of context bro..for i in no means am defending extremism..rather i oppose it..am just sayin tht fundamentalism is not the same as extremism..and they arnt synonyms..
then abt jinns and demons..is it illogical to believe in them? aaah y do u think so? how illogical it is to say so when the One who created the intellect and the very brain affirms the existence of jinns and demons in His book..doesnt He? and didnt muhammad sallalahu 'alaihi wasalam say so tht they do exist??
thn dnt go to interpret the verses of the Qur'an which indicates the existence of jinns...for how illogical it wud be to believe tht one who came 1400 years after its revelation knws what it says more thn the prophet sallalahu 'alaihi wasalam himself???
reminder: m not being offensive but rather m just commentin ;)
again and again i say''always stick to the original state of affairs..

You are quite right, Simon.

Muslims claim to be the most tolerant. But does it manifest in practice?
Muslims claim to stand up for equity and equality. But does it manifest in practice?
And if muslims did infact stand up for enlightment and progress, why do they seem to step backwards instead of forwards? Why can't they integrate science and civilisation into everyday life? Can't they adapt the fundamental teachings to the changing times and thereby pave the way forth instead of hinder it?

Islam, in my opinion, is merely a way of life. No better, no worse than any other religion.

Religion is an option if you are scarce of a way of life, and by no means is it a necessary one.

My posts, very obviously, have words in them and when one takes the (I hate to revert to an over used cliche) words out of context it's meaning can be something entirely different. The same, of course, cannot be said of the incidents that lead to the mayhem that ensued the cartoons.

For instance, "stupid muslims" makes me sound like a bigotted redneck but in it's proper context: "Without the dossier thousands (as opposed to the millions) of stupid, ignorant, gullible (as opposed to smart, educated and astute ) Muslims..." is only referring to the few that succumb to such violent propaganda.

A good example of this is that in the Danish flag burning frenzy around the Muslim world several Swiss flags were also burned. Look at the flags and you'll immediately know the reason and that is precisely my point.

I think perhaps, Moyameeha, you have been utterly uninformed when you equated the whole cartoon chaos to some followers doing something. How can a 139 death toll, reactions from over 20 countries, the involvement of EU, the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), demonstrations, ban on Danish goods resulting in loss of 134 million Euros, riots, fatwas and burning embassies be just some followers doing something?

Also, no one is born civilised. They are raised thus. And from a certain point on it is their decision to think critically and constructively beyond what is taught, indoctrinated or fed - not just for the sake of themselves but for the sake of possibly many.

My "stereostypical" thinking is moulded by facts. And in my opinion human progress IS with science. Just look around you. If we were less preoccupied with how or with what we should have sex with (for example) maybe we can progress even faster?

RXS, from whichever cave you walked out of it has done you good. Pity we cannot say the same about the smooth patch on ur scalp eh?

Sinningslave I did not say fundamentalism. And please don't excuse yourself everytime you comment on this blog. I usually don't bite unless you're tasty. Also the fundamentals of medicine and the fundamentals of religion are totally different things. One is about saving human life - the other has more bloodshed than Kill Bill on acid.

This "original state of affairs" is a dangerous notion in today's world. We're not a few millions concentrated in a desert anymore. We are a global community of billions scattered far and wide from Maldives, Paris to Antarctica.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" - Arther C. Clarke.

What if all the Christians in the World went raving mad, burning the publishers just because someone a chick had the hotties to do this?

RXS said: "I think this whole thing is a stage in development! especially for Maldives. This and other political turmoil in the country would revolutionalise the way Maldives comes to know itself! Most of the educated ppl are becoming very much the family man/woman (like you Simon) and are worried about the future than the present."

Simon, what RXS has said is very convenient i guess. I know another Maldivain who had the same thoughts as u.Fear. He was damn worried that his children might have to see and go through all whats going on there. The fear of not being able to instill the values you want to be instilled in your children.

I swore to myself that i will not engage in any religious discussions on the internet. As u can see i am not good in keeping that. Any how. Being raised as a muslim thought me to be a tolerant being (the 25% in me i guess as with messymissy http://messymissy.blogspot.com/2006/10/thats-all.html):)
no doubt about that. You only realise this when you live with the so called "infidels" for sometime. The other day i was in this bar and came across 3 people. One man surrounded by 2 girls. The man was a handsome bloke and i wanted to talk to him. No problem with the 2 girls. This guy did not want to talk to me and the 2 girls walked away from him and came with me. I asked the 2 why they walked away from him and they told me that he need to understand and be tolerant of others and they knew what tolerance meant (i do wear burgaa/ dhopattaa style sometimes not on a religious basis but as a fashion). There are a few ignorant ass holes like him here in Sydney as well. It is not only that ignorance persists in the "muslim world" (is the world only theirs..theirs meaning those who came up with that word). The majority are more than tolerant here in australia. This place must be the only place where tolerance has some meaning to it as a western society. The 2 girls were raised as muslims as well and we had a nice chit chat after that.In the end when we were about to leave, this man apologised to me and said that he should not have acted the way he did. Some times u notice that more than the muslims, the so called "infidels" do get offended more. With simple things in life and not only religious issues. So Why bother about religion and rather lets concentrate on life issues and live life to the fullest.

Have fun. Have a beer. Enjoy. Smile and be happy.

For more details on the world of jinni visit site

Google query for:
offended Muslims - 2.27 Million+ results and
offended Christians 4.75 Million+ results.
And of course there are almost twice as many Christians in this world than Muslims to be offended.

And who decides if being offended is barbaric?

Some more results from the evil Google:
The so called most civilized offended Americans 2.4 Million+
Chinese offended 2.18 Million+
Simon offended 1.3 Million!
offended Maldivians less than 3 Hundred
Microsoft offended 1.1 Million +

Nothing personal ;)

My point is: it's not just Muslims who get offended when provoked by 'barbaric' means from their point of view. Muslims do make cartoons, and jokes about themselves, but when an outsider does it it's taken differently. Same goes to Maldivians, Kazakhstanians or Americans making jokes about their-selves as well.

Being barbaric may mean quite different things from the point/culture it is viewed from.

I think sensitive issues relating to 'organized religions' and 'organized states' like what you have written about has to be presented in an even broader perspective. ie: if you want some progress; but then again even progress is a relative man-made standard.

The Robots.

Messy's Friend, I have absolutely no idea what you were talking about or the moral of that story but whatever it is I'm sure it's done good.

Moving on...

Anonymous, sensitive issues about which I've written is regularly presented in this so-called "boarder perspective" - they are called summits, conferences and meetings of heads of states. Therein, we are told, lies hope in progress.

This, on the other hand, is my perspective - broad or not. And I write not in any hope of gaining any sort of progress but to produce thought and reflexions.

Here's my anecdotal Google research:

According to Google there are 3.6 million Man Eating Worms and 1.5 million Worm Eating Men on earth.

As you can see clearly the worms have the upper hand.

my my simonshareef..so u meant to say stickin to the fundamentals of islam leads to violence and bloodshed???
aaah hate to always comment rather thn compliment on these blogs..
now let us go a 'few' centuries back..to the time of the 'golden age' of islam..wen we had the upper hand..aaah mate wot was the reason for this?? yeah yeah brother the muslims always returned to the original state of affairs..meanin they held on to the fundamentals..not to newly invented laid out innovatory principles..
and wot was the west like those days?? aaaah bitter dark age..y? they had the church to rule over them..
and later on they left their church..simultaneously the muslims left their religion..and they were humiliated..by whom?? by the bush? by west? by the jews? NO NO..it ws the humiliation of Allah upon us..yeah this is prophesised in the hadeeth..yeah it is..and what did the prophet sallalahu 'alaihi wasalam say abt the cure?? did he say to make groups and parties and rebel against every single leader of the muslims?? did he say to take arms and blow every single building??? no no he never said tht..but wot did he say? He said to return back to the religion...meanin to stick to the original state of affairs..meanin hold on to the fundamentals of Islam..
and do not be decieved by the acts of the blacksheeps of the muslim community..meanin the extremists..tht is like osama ibn laden and his ilk..they have left the 'original state of affairs'..they have left 'fundamentals of islam'..have made new principles..so dont go on blamin on the fundamentals of islam sayin tht it leads to bloodshed...it leads to peace..
and abt jinns? can i have my say here? u dnt believe in them dont u? cos they are 'illogical' and irrational' ? is tht so? wonder if u believe in miracles and angels??
do try to bring forth ur fallible of logic above the Words of the One who gave u the mind to choose from what is right from wrong???
my my isnt tht 'illogical' and 'irrational'?

hey bro,
gud article ...
me thinks, if they didnt make all fuss about them pics, we wudnt even have known abt it ...
just let is slide ... eh ?
top right hand corner ... kewl bike ...
ciao ...
