Dangerous new blog is Cheaper
This was originally going to be a comment on the previous entry but I thought it would be more appropriate as a new entry in itself.
Reasons why I moved to own hosting and domain is this:
- I want full control of the templates (Typepad costs more for that feature). This thing costs me $47 per year - domain AND hosting whereas Typepad costs $80+ and no domain
- I wanted PHP / MySQL for other features and my own experiments
- I will be publishing my work and portfolio on the main page - reason why this blog lives on /blog/
- It's the logical next step forward - Refer to 10th point on Top Ten Design Mistakes by usability expert Jakob Nielsen (I hope that answers Primary0's question.
This blog is currently using the rudimentary templates that came with Movable Type. I've just modified the header. It took me 1 day to install, modify templates and upload. I highly recommend MT.
If it at all feels "dangerous" or like "declaring war" let's just say that it was designed after months of study and testing to include nuances that can only be detected by some people only. ;-)
So that's it and as Dori the fish would say: "You want a piece of me? Huh? Huh?"

It was around 3 years ago I decided to read Jackob Nielsen's Designing Web Usability. It turned out to be one of the most annoying books I have ever started reading. For a situated blogger like you, he may not be the best design mentor. Try reading some of Clay Shirky's work.

I'm not sure reading Clay's work is going to help me be a better designer (in terms of UI). Not that I am particular about the UI. Also he has not written since March 2004.
As for Jakob, I've never read any of his books nor do I particularly follow any of his online posts. The 10th point on his weblogs mistakes list is an excuse. :)

some of the things that i dont know is web language, stuff like PHP, RSS. apart from that u can ask me anything tech and i will tell u something new thats been around or goin to happen. Been reading ur blog for a few days, interesting read. Oh! n by the way "LIVE" n "ViiV" are the words that u will hear most in tech for 2006. bet on that.
